Our Saturday Soccer program is a collaboration with the Mascaro Boys and Girls Club. Thank you Will and staff for working with us to provide such a successful program. Mr. Galland, thank you for your organization and leadership in helping get this program off the ground. Families, thank you you for supporting your child's interest in participating in the Columbus/Mascaro Saturday Soccer League. The program brings together nearly 200 Columbus students from second through fifth grade and their families. Teams are organized by grade into four teams. We try to keep classes together in order for students to be more familiar with their teammates. This fall season, the program ran for seven weeks. The six first weeks teams play a round-robin style schedule and the last week we organized teams to play against their families (students vs. adults). Coaching and referees are provided by the Mascaro Boys and Girls Club. There are a total of four expert coaches and two referees. For many of our players, it is their first time playing an organized sport. Our coaches and referees help guide players in understanding the fundamentals of the game. Before each match, I sit with the players and go over the expectations we are looking for when participating in our program. There are four expectations we go through. 1. We want everyone to be safe. That means we want to avoid any kind of slide tackling, pushing, kicking, etc. 2. We want players to listen to the coaches and referees. They are there to guide players and if they have any questions, refs and coaches can answer. Coaches are also responsible for subbing players so that all players have a fair amount of time to play. 3.  We also expect good sportsmanship from our players.  We strive to create a culture of safety and learning. 4. We want players to have FUN! We want players to try moves, play great defense, and learn to score goals.
